Subject: why lag with cable?

The other night, others and I were experiencing lag, it was with
about 14 players. if i have cable 768k, why should I experience any lag. Is it because of others who have
a slow pc or connection? It seems as though we should have more merc games going to accomodate the growing
number of merc players. Like a merc game to skirmish a squadron and at the same time another merc game
open to all .
